Getting the Best Fibroid Treatment Outcome

Lessening the gap in communication between a patient’s gynecologist and an interventional radiologist can result in better patient care.  When a patient isn’t aware of all of the uterine fibroid treatment options available to them, they may not get the results they want.

Uterine Fibroid Treatment Options

If you’ve been diagnosed with uterine fibroids, your gynecologist may have explained several treatment options to you, however, there are other treatment options that an interventional radiologist can provide that you may not know about. In the past, a hysterectomy performed by a gynecologist was the standard for uterine fibroid treatment. Now, however, there are other options including uterine fibroid embolization. It is important to work with a gynecologist who understands the value of UFE so that if you are a candidate, you can make an informed decision about your treatment.

Interventional Radiologist and Gynecologist Collaboration

A collaborative care approach can provide the patient with all the minimally invasive options available. In a study by the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology, 138 of 226 women diagnosed with fibroids were referred to an interventional radiologist by their gynecologist. 62 percent of the group of women were candidates for Uterine Fibroid Embolization and 38% percent had UFE done. The women who didn’t have UFE treatment returned to their gynecologist for further care. Be sure to ask your gynecologist about UFE treatment.

Fibroid Treatment in Dallas, Texas

A patient needs to see a gynecologist first to have a pelvic exam, but with so many treatment options, being referred to interventional radiologists like Dr. Robert Handley at North Texas Fibroids to learn about UFE is critical. Uterine Fibroid Embolization is a minimally invasive procedure that can be done at North Texas Fibroids in Flower Mound, TX.
